Play Happy! Perspectives is a Blog about MORE than Golf…It’s a way to Play, Think and Live.
Choose Happiness — Don’t Wish for It
Golf has a funny way of convincing us that happiness is always waiting somewhere in the future.
I’ll be happy when I break 80.
I’ll enjoy myself when I start hitting it better.
I’ll feel good if I make this putt.

But what if happiness on the golf course isn’t something you have to earn, but rather something you choose!
You have the ability to be happy in golf, regardless of the number on the scorecard. The decision is yours. Instead of waiting for golf to make you happy, allow happiness to come through golf.
Process Over Outcome
Golfers often measure happiness by results: fairways hit, putts made, pars, birdies and the final score.
But a scorecard doesn’t know whether you laughed with your playing partners, enjoyed a beautiful morning, hit one unforgettable shot or simply appreciated the opportunity to play.
Focus on the process instead.
Can you make a confident decision? Can you commit fully to the shot in front of you? Can you accept the result without carrying it to the next tee?
Do those things consistently and something interesting happens: you give yourself a better chance to play well while also giving yourself permission to enjoy the game.
Happiness Is Part of Your Game Plan
Before your next round, make happiness one of your goals.
Not “I hope I play well enough to have fun.”
Instead, tell yourself:
“Today, I’m choosing to enjoy playing golf.”
There will still be bad shots, missed putts and unfortunate bounces. Choosing happiness doesn’t mean pretending those things aren’t frustrating. It means deciding they won’t determine the experience.
Golf isn’t just about where the ball finishes.
It’s about how you choose to experience the journey.
Choose happiness. Don’t wish for it.
Play Happy!
